 Helpdesk

Welcome to the Campbell University Helpdesk, where we hope to be able to assist you with your computer needs.  These pages exist to provide you links to information and downloads which we hope will assist you while you are a member of the Campbell University community.

WHAT WE DO:

Our primary goal is to assist the students in whatever way is possible.  In that regard, over the phone and in the office, we aid students in cleaning viruses and spyware, updating their machines for protection, and diagnosing other issues.  At present, we do not do any hardware work, but will make recommendations based on our observations.

If you have a question about your student email or the account used to log on to Web Access, you may call, but please have your student identification number ready.

For in office work, you must make an appointment, this way we can do our best to work machines in an order that returns them to their owner in a timely manner.  Also, if you have special needs with your computer (USB keyboards and mice, external CD-ROMs or floppies, etc) you will need to bring those in as well.  For desktops, exempting the above examples, we only need the tower.  We have monitors for desktop maintenance, as well as the keyboards and mice necessary.

With laptops, we do not work on a machine until we have a power cord.  The reasoning behind this is that if the power fails while we are doing certain points of maintenance, there is a risk of damage to the machine.  Please, bring the cord with your laptop.

NEWS

February 20 - We have recently replaced Symantec as our provider for antivirus software.  As a result, if you have a computer on our network or have installed the Campbell version of the Symantec antivirus, you will need to replace it with the new Sophos that we are issuing.

Security Alert
As is the case every year, a new wave of AIM viruses begins in August, in time for the start of school.  If you are experiencing difficulties and have recently clicked a strange link in any messenger, despite the fact that the instructions are written for AIM, please click here for some recommendations on removal and repair of the issue.

Recently, users have discovered the ability to access other user's music collections through iTunes.  To protect your machine against this intrusion and to lessen the strain on the network from those users doing this, we recommend that you turn the sharing feature off.  If you do not know how to do so, instructions are available here.

In the past, many of you have asked about purchasing Office and other computer related items at a reduced rate through the school.  That is now possible thanks to a new partnership program we have entered into.  For more information, click here.

For those who are interested, we are able to manually register the XBox and other game systems for online gaming.  For more information, click here.
