Steven R. Harmon teaches introductory courses in Christian theology and Christian ethics and advanced courses in historical and systematic theology. A specialist in patristics and ecumenical theology, he is the author of Towards Baptist Catholicity: Essays on Tradition and the Baptist Vision (Paternoster, 2006) and Every Knee Should Bow: Biblical Rationales for Universal Salvation in Early Christian Thought (University Press of America, 2003), editor of the forthcoming volume on 1 & 2 Peter, 1-3 John, and Jude in the Reformation Commentary on Scripture series published by InterVarsity Press, and author of chapters contributed to other books and articles published in Pro Ecclesia, Journal of Early Christian Studies, Studia Patristica, International Journal for the Study of the Christian Church, Interpretation, Perspectives in Religious Studies, Review and Expositor, Biblical Theology Bulletin, and Baptist History and Heritage. Dr. Harmon’s research interests in constructive theology focus on ways in which Baptists and other free church Christians may find resources in post-biblical early Christian tradition for contemporary faith and practice. He is Vice Chair of the Doctrine and Interchurch Cooperation Commission of the Baptist World Alliance, a member of the Baptist World Alliance delegation to conversations with the Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Faith and Order Commission of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, and Book Review Editor for the journal Perspectives in Religious Studies.

Prior to joining the Campbell faculty in 1998, Dr. Harmon served as an adjunct professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Howard Payne University and served as pastor of congregations in Texas. He continues to serve as interim pastor and guest preacher and teacher in congregations in North Carolina. In his free time Dr. Harmon enjoys reading, playing the alto recorder and occasionally the French horn, listening to a wide range of music from Bach to U2, caring for his Collie and Beagle, and enjoying life with his wife Kheresa and one-year-old son Timothy.
