Dean Michael G. Cogdill is the Founding Dean and Professor of Pastoral Leadership. Dean Cogdill was chosen as the first dean of Campbell’s newest school upon its inception in 1996. Prior to being named to this position, he served as Chair of the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Campbell. Dean Cogdill views his call as a minister and his work as dean as an extension of one calling - to serve God faithfully in church-related ministry.
Dean Cogdill specializes in the area of church leadership and teaches courses related to pastoral ministries, preaching, and family studies. Two of his favorite courses are Introduction to Theological Education and The Life and Work of the Minister. Dean Cogdill has published articles in books and journals. He is the recipient of honors during his tenure at Campbell. He was named Professor of the Year in 1992 and had the 1997 yearbook, The Pine Burr, dedicated in his honor. He is also the holder of the Lewis and Martha Barnes Tyner Chair of Bible, a full-time faculty position in the Divinity School.
A popular preacher and Bible teacher in North Carolina Baptist churches, Dean Cogdill has served two churches as pastor and numerous churches as interim pastor. He leads the Divinity School in carrying out its many ministries to its constituents. He and his wife, Gail, have two adult children and one grandson.
